The first day of the symposium was dedicated to the Site Visit, organized expressly for the delegation composed by foreign participants who had the chance to visit two of the most important Italian research centres: the ENEA, Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development and the IAPS, Institute for Space Astrophysics and Planetology.
Below just a brief description of the centres that the delegation saw during the Site Visit.
The Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development, has 9 centres distributed on the entire national territory, with over 2700 employees.
Its activity is mainly focused on research, innovation, and lending of services for public administrations, industries and private citizens. ENEA works on energy efficiency, renewable, nuclear energy; the centre of Rome (Casaccia) has many laboratories and experimental plants, and vaunts technological innovation capability in sectors like, for example, the agro-food, the environment or the climate.
Among the several activities and laboratories, we could mention the laboratory for Electromagnetic compatibility, which makes measures and tests due to civil, military and avionics standards, or, the laboratory for tests about “shock” and “fall”, that aims to the evaluation and qualification of components and systems for industrial and nuclear applications and for aerospace industries.
During the visit were presented some of the main laboratories and projects of the research centre:

The Institute for Space Astrophysics and Planetology is one of the research centres connected to the National Institute of Astrophysics, which is the principal Italian research company for the study of the universe.
It promotes, realizes and coordinates, even into European Union programmes and international organizations, research activities in the fields of astronomy and astrophysics, both in collaboration with Universities and other subjects (public, private, national and international).
It designs and develops innovative technologies and advanced instrumentation, to study and explore the cosmos.
The visit was structured in order to present the laboratories and the Clean Room of INTEGRAL and ROSETTA .
