JPND meets Industry - A Workshop on Industry-Academia Collaboration in Neurodegenerative Disease Research

Organised by JPND

The EU Joint Programme – Neurodegenerative Disease Research (JPND) is hosting a half-day workshop to foster collaboration in Neurodegenerative Disease (ND) research between academia and industry. JPND is the largest global research initiative aimed at tackling the challenge of ND and currently includes 30 member countries.

JPND is engaging with industries (pharma, diagnostics, IT, medical devices, healthcare providers and imaging industries) that are interested in creating innovation in the field of ND. The aim of the workshop will be to provide introductions between academia and industry in order to lay the foundations for future collaborations and knowledge exchanges in ND research, and will serve to orient JPND’s research activity and investment over the coming decade.

Biomedical research in Calabria and perspectives for Technology Transfer

Life Sciences is one of the Innovation Areas of the Smart Specialization Strategy of the Calabria Region, based on well structured public research activities and the progressive consolidation of Laboratories and R&D Infrastructures with interesting impacts on biomedical SMEs, research spin-offs and innovative startups. The workshop presents three main topics, particularly relevant for extra-regional projections of research and innovation activities, such as advanced technologies and applications of Biomedical Imaging, the ‘Omic’ Sciences regional platform, Nutraceuticals and environmental safety, able to exploit the interdisciplinary contributions from different technologies and applicative topics, and also supported by the recent Research Infrastructures regional plan (PRIR). Entrepreneurial impacts are witnessed by the presence of several Calabrian companies and innovative startups at the MIT4LS-2017 events. An international perspective will be opened by the conclusive discussion with Mr Mark Coticchia (Henry Ford Health System) on trends, risks, and opportunities to further proceed on the innovation trails.
