Low Carbon Heat International Showcase

SIGN UP NOW!  www.heatandwater2016.co.uk

This one day conference will cover innovation, investment, projects and international topics in low carbon heating & cooling and water & wastewater.  It will bring together large heat and water using customers - facilities & estate managers and buyers from companies with factories and large estates, local authorities, universities, housing associations, NHS - and suppliers of innovative solutions for improving efficiency, reducing cost and carbon emissions.

It will feature B2B matchmaking and networking, exhibition of Scottish-based solutions suppliers, inspiring speakers on interesting topics, foreign delegations, company pitches and a drinks reception.  There will be a site visits programme on 24th February.

The Showcase was a great success. Thank-you for all your feedback which was incredibly positive - over 90% rated the event organisation, venue and matchmaking as 'excellent' or 'good', over 85% rated the conference sessions and site visits as 'excellent' or 'good', and over 80% rated the exhibition as 'excellent or good'. Some quotes: "the exposure was absolutely brilliant and we feel confident that we are going to get a contract"; "we had a great day at the Showcase and have about 10 solid leads"; "thank you for a really great event, the best one I’ve been to so far"; "the best and most organised conference I have been at in 15 years in the industry"; "a really worthwhile event for us"; "the Matchmaking section was super from the website set up in advance through to the sessions on the day. Overall the best event of many that I have been to this year."  We are full of ideas on how to maintain and build the momentum in low carbon heat which the Showcase has created and will let you know about these in due course.  Please don't hesitate to contact us through this website.

Many thanks to the 265 delegates who attended on the day and created such a buzz throughout during the networking and matchmaking time, and at the plenary and breakout sessions - a record (for low carbon events in Scotland).
* 309 B2B matchmaking meetings were completed, 60% of which will progress to further discussion.
* 35 Scottish-based solutions providers exhibited to delegates all day and
* we welcomed visiting delegations from Sweden and Denmark as well as delegates from 7 other countries outside Scotland, many of whom participated on the site visits the following day.
Many thanks to our 26 speakers and facilitators, all leaders in companies, public sector and other organisations which are helping to drive the low carbon heat sector forward. The speaker presentations are now available at the links against each speaker on the Speakers and Presentations page of this website.

This site will remain 'live' - please continue to use it as a networking resource, as all the delegate and company profiles remain here.  We will upload new reports and information on events and other low carbon heat related things to this site, and keep you informed by email.  Please contact us about anything to do with low carbon heat and cooling in Scotland, using the email and telephone contact details on the Contacts page.

New reports - we have uploaded the two reports which Prof Sir Jim McDonald drew from in his keyonote address: the International Market Opportunity for the Scottish Low Carbon Heat Sector; and the Low Carbon Heating & Cooling Scottish Company Base and Market Opportunities

Low Carbon Heat International Showcase, 18-19 November 2014

  • Company Exhibition, B2B Matchmaking, Seminars, Drinks Reception - Tues 18 Nov

  • Site Visits - Wed 19 Nov

This Showcase will:

  • provide a platform for Scottish-connected technology, engineering and solutions companies to demonstrate their low carbon heat products and services to customers (facilities and plant managers) and build customer understanding of solutions and the capabilities of Scotland's company base
  • better connect players in the low carbon heat sector (Scottish-based companies & customers and delegates from Denmark, Sweden, rest of the UK and Europe)
  • build knowledge on the latest opportunities, challenges and developments in district heating, heat pumps, waste heat recovery and related areas

The emphasis is on networking and there is the opportunity to pre-book face-to-face meetings - B2B matchmaking - with the people who you really want to meet.  Please upload your profile and select the matches you want to make on this site.  The company exhibition and a programme of seminars will run through the day, culminating in a networking drinks reception.  The following day there is a programme of site visits.

What is Low Carbon Heat?

Low carbon heat is renewable heat and any technology that improves the efficiency of providing, distributing or using heat or cooling.  This includes water & space heating and cooling in domestic & commercial properties and process heat & cooling for industrial purposes.  It covers design, consultancy, manufacture, construction, operation and maintenance of new equipment and infrastructure, and retrofit.  It can be defined under three themes:

Heat generation

  • Renewable heat: biomass; biofuels; solar thermal; heat pumps (air, ground, water)
  • Efficient heat from fossil fuels: efficient boilers, electric storage heaters and heating, ventilation & air conditioning systems; combined heat & power; fuel cells
  • Air conditioning & refrigeration processes and technologies

Heat distribution

  • District heating
  • Waste heat recovery and associated technologies
  • Storage - to improve the efficiency of heat use or increase the penetration of renewable heat
  • Combining heat and cooling needs

Heat control and monitoring

  • Controls - eg thermostats
  • Sensors for monitoring heat and energy use
  • Design, simulation and heat modelling
  • Smart thermal grid/ demand management

Who should attend?

  • Suppliers: of technologies, products, services and solutions in low carbon heat and those seeking to enter these markets
  • Customers: facilities managers seeking to reduce heating & cooling costs and carbon emissions and re-use or monetise waste heat (eg local authorities, NHS, universities, housing associations, factories/ distilleries)
  • Supporting players: people helping make projects happen including financiers, developers, planners and others supporting development of the low carbon heat sector

Scotland and Low Carbon Heat

Scotland has some of the most progressive climate change targets in the world and a commitment to deliver 11% of its non-electrical heat demand from renewable sources by 2020. This presents a real opportunity to develop the low carbon heat sector in Scotland to generate economic growth and reduce carbon emissions, as described in Scotland's draft Heat Generation Policy Statement (March 2014).  Recent initiatives include:

  • development of the national heat map for Scotland
  • a target of 40,000 homes to benefit from affordable low carbon heat from district heating, part of an overall target of 1.5 TWh of heat to be delivered by district heating by 2020
  • increasing the District Heating Loan Fund by over £4 million, making £8 million available over the two years 2014 to 2016
  • work on exploiting Scotland’s geothermal resources

Scottish Enterprise, Scottish Development International and Enterprise Europe Network believe in the economic opportunities for suppliers (growing markets) and customers (reduced heat cost/ waste) and are delighted to welcome Scottish and international delegates to Edinburgh to learn about and discuss these.
