ITB 2016 International Matchmaking Event

Tourism in the Berlin-Brandenburg Region

Brandenburg, the Federal State that encompasses Berlin, the Capital of Germany, is full of exciting surprises and worthwhile experiences.

The landscape abundant in lakes and rivers is ideal for a tour on a houseboat (no licence required) or canoe.

A total of 3,000 lakes and 30,000 kilometres of waterways offer visitors an unforgettable natural spectacle. Another possibility to explore the State of Brandenburg is by bike. There are more than 7,000 kilometres of newly built cycle paths that lead you to the State's key nature attractions.

The flat cycle paths along the Brandenburg Rivers are not only relaxing and fun to ride on, but also offer fascinating impressions of the natural wonders along the way.

For those who prefer an entirely easy and relaxing vacation will be in good hands on Brandenburg's golf courses that can live up to international standards. Aside from the spectacular palaces and gardens of Potsdam, little historic jewels that were created by the grand building masters offer cultural and natural delight at the highest level.

Cultural attractions stemming from a more recent history are also worth a visit. Among them are the open-air museums (Freilichtmuseen), as well as the Mildenberg Brick Works Parks, which delivered a vast number of bricks for the construction of buildings in Berlin.

Explore the cultural and historic monuments in the vicinity of the metropolis, among them a vast number of palaces and castles, providing useful insight into the local history as much as entertainment. Encircled by the stunning landscapes and situated in the heart of Brandenburg, the lively and dynamic metropolis Berlin attracts millions of visitors each year.

For several years, Brandenburg's tourism industry has seen a rise in its economic output. With around 85,000 beds located in 1,600 business premises of more than ten beds, Brandenburg saw a new record of almost 12 mio. overnight stays in 2014, securing it the top position among the German area states. Ten percent of the state's businesses belongs to the tourism industry. Around 60,000 employees in 10,000 touristic enterprises are generating a yearly turnover of 4.4 billion Euro. Besides the multiple-day segment, the single-day tourism plays an important role with 2.5 billion Euros of turnover generated per year alone.
