A dedicated EU-India Thematic Working Group on Energy suggested three sub-thematic areas “solar energy”, “bioenergy”, and “smart grids” for special consideration in Indo-European STI activities. They were approved by the Group of Senior Officials (GSO), a body for coordinating STI initiatives on high-level between the EU and India.
The panel discussion at this conference will be a forum to exchange views on these thematic areas between a broader group of stakeholders including a co-chair of the GSO Thematic Working Group on Energy, potential instruments for funding activities in those areas such as ERA-Nets or JPIs and other initiatives active in the field of energy (e.g. EERA), industry, the policy level, and the scientific community. The exchange aims at finding synergies between the GSO process and other initiatives active in the respective sub-thematics defined, as well as providing insights into the possible format and scale of scope of meaningful new initiatives.
Since the concept of frugal innovation is gaining an ever increasing importance in India not only for society but also in industry and policy, a special focus will be to pinpoint potentials for cooperative initiatives to show how this approach could be used for joint activities.
